Norma Estrada Carbajal

Norma Estrada was born in Lima on January 15, 1969. She comes from an artistic background and, moved by a desire to capture Peru's customs and traditional costumes, she began to craft dolls in 1994. She has participated in various competitions and exhibitions, "but my biggest challenge is to excel and to care for my children," Norma tells us.

"I use cotton, Cuzco ribbons, wool, thread and paint to make my dolls, which I sew on a machine. I tried to teach this craft to my family and other people, but they find it difficult to learn – they find it too laborious."

"When I sit in front of the sewing machine I feel inspired, and I try to transmit it to my dolls. I create them as I work along, I don't follow a predetermined pattern."
