William Negron

"I'm William Negrón Olaya and I was born in Piura on December 4, 1971. My artistic training comes from my parents. From learning how to prepare the wood to begin a specific work, pressing it and joining it according to my design, they taught me each step. I then begin carving and, on the rough form, I sketch the piece in my mind. When I finally achieve the image, I carefully polish it. For some designs, I paint them by hand to complement the shape.

"My art comes from my hands and my tools, and I create very original works that are finely finished. I've done this now since 1987. It is the beauty of the wood, its forms and colors that motivate me; I simply transmit and highlight its warmth. Carving and wood are two different worlds that become just one for me – a life of creation and beautiful shapes."
