Wayan Longsong has been featured in LOHAS magazine.
"My name is Wayan Longsog and I was born in Bali on October 13, 1961. I have studied the basics of woodcarving from my father since 1974. After carving Garuda wood statues, I opened my own art shop in 1979.
"The Ramayana and Mahabharata stories, which I've seen performed by puppeteers in shadow puppet shows, inspire me very much. The puppet characters lively portray various human behaviors and games from real life that we can take teachings from. Shadow puppet shows also encourage our imagination to focus on traditional values and the ancient stories passed on by our grandmothers at night before we sleep in childhood times, and our memory of local lullaby.
"My Garuda wood statues, masks, and primitive statues have been acquired by national and international collectors. There are many local young men who eagerly learn woodcarving in my studio and some of them have been successful and have opened their own art shops or studios. They will be our next generation with even better art works. There are ten artists who work with me, creating Garuda woodcarvings and others from local
albesia wood (
Cassiaw albesia) and oil paints. My wife, my two children, and I give our honorable regards and thanks to Novica for helping and promoting me via the global internet market. May our cooperation create a better future together!"
